About Me

I’m Susan Sears — a registered nurse, writer, and lifelong storyteller.

Who I am: For over twenty years, I’ve worked as a registered nurse. I have worked primarily in pediatrics, walking alongside children and families through moments of fear, hope, and healing. Those experiences shaped not only who I am, but how I tell stories — with compassion, attentiveness, and respect for the quiet strength found in everyday lives.

What I write: I write children’s books that honor imagination, emotional growth, and kindness. My stories for young readers are created to reassure, encourage, and celebrate the wonder of being a child — whether at home, in the classroom, or during life’s more difficult moments.

I also write historical fiction for adults, drawn to stories rooted in faith, memory, strength, and legacy. My adult novels explore ordinary people shaped by extraordinary times — stories of migration, family, loss, courage, and the enduring ties that bind generations together. History, for me, is not distant or abstract; it is personal, lived, and carried forward through story.

Alongside my creative writing, I also have professional experience writing in the healthcare space.

Why I write:   Though these audiences may seem different, they are deeply connected. At the heart of all my writing is the same purpose: to tell stories that matter — stories that offer comfort, reflection, and meaning at every stage of life.

Beyond Writing: When I’m not writing or working as a nurse, I enjoy spending time with my family, caring for our pets, and finding peace outdoors, often fly-fishing—a practice that mirrors much of my writing life: patient, attentive, and grounded in presence.

Thank you for being here. Whether you’ve arrived looking for a children’s story or an adult novel shaped by history, I’m grateful you’ve found your way to this space.

If you’d like to stay connected

I share occasional notes about my writing, the stories behind my books, and the moments that shape the work I do—both for children and adult readers. I don’t send emails often, only when there’s something meaningful to share.
